Scorpio: constellation, traits and mythology

Scorpio constellation traits and mythology of the zodiac sign

The constellation of Scorpio is located between the constellation of Libra (West) and Sagittarius’ (East). It’s probably one of the brightest and easy to notice of the entire Zodiac, as much that, often, is taken into account as a reference point in the sky. The brightest star of this constellation is Antares, the heart of the Scorpio.

Scorpio constellation traits and mythology

We can find the “cult” of the Scorpio rooted basically everywhere in many cultures. The star Antares was already known by the Persians, during 300 B.C., under the name of “Satevis”. During that time the Persians astrologers used to observe this group of stars defining them “The four royal stars” or “The Guardians of the sky”.

It was identified with the deity Serket, the Goddess of fertility, nature, animals, medicine, magic, and healing venomous stings and bites in Egyptian mythology, originally the deification of the Scorpio.
It seems that its roots as a Zodiac Sign are from Ancient Greek, through the myth of Orion. Orion was the son of the sea-god Poseidon and Euryale, daughter of Minos, the King of Crete.

The myth reports that Orion was in love with Merope, a mortal princess. To be married to her, he had to comply with the tests issued by Merope’s father, that consisted of defeating all the infernal beasts in Chios. But the deals weren’t fulfilled, so Orion raped Merope and was punished by her father with the blindness.
When Orion regain the vision set off to Chios seeking revenge.

During this journey, Orion meets Diana, the hunt Goddess. At this point the myth is a bit controversial: some versions report that Diana was deeply in love with Orion, and she dared him at hunting to prevent him from returning to Chios; during this hunt, Orion was bitten by a Scorpio and dead.

Another version reports that Diana, angry and offended by Orion’s behaviour, rose up a Scorpio against him, leading Orion to death. I have to say that this one isn’t the only version of Scorpio’s mythology, I found many of them, but this one is my favourite!

Scorpio constellation traits and mythology of the zodiac sign

Scorpio is one of the most controversial signs of the Zodiac: magnetic, fascinating, intense. Those who were born under this sign are bright, resourceful, serious and they have substance. They can appear a bit bossy (and they actually are, but it’s just a protective wall), but pay attention to making them enemies: they never pass over or forget anything. They can also appear a bit prickly with words, but -most of the times- they don’t do this maliciously.

They’re very, very possessive and emotional. For this reason, their intellectual and psychological capacities are very keen. Those who were born under this sign are energetic, dynamic (not too much), insightful, smart and passional. Their vivacity and their critical sense are so much developed to pull them to take action into discussions and polemics.

Precise and intuitive, Scorpios benefit from a natural insight.
At first sight, they may appear cold and unshakable, but is just a protective wall they made to avoid delusions: once lighten up, Scorpios are able to give all themselves, unravelling a very sweet side. This happens between a jealous scene and another, obviously.

In relationships, they tend to look for continuous validate from the partner, often with sarcasm and irony. When they’re on their mood, instead, pay attention to their stinger! When Scorpios are hurt tend to turn in on themselves first, but you can be sure that once get up they will seek revenge.
They normally benefit from good health, but their weak points are the reproductive organs.

Being a very “mindful” sign, a full YES for all those activities that help to stimulate the mind, like writing, politic, research, psychoanalysis, detective: the minds of the Scorpios are always moving so they need to release those qualities.
Scorpios are tenacious, independent, fast, and they will often prefer to work by themselves compared to teamwork.

Best Match.

Pisces Icon

Pisces – A strong physical attraction is often developed quite immediately. There are always sex and passion in this explosive couple. Since they’re both Water signs, they’re extremely humoral people, always ready to live love without reserve. They both need help, assurance and to know that they can count on the other part. Just try to follow to this path of mutual understanding and everything will be fine. In other cases, fights and bickering will bring just negativity and problems.

Cancer Icon

Cancer – A quite good relationship, based on a good physical attraction. There are a few ups and downs which appear from time to time, mainly because of the different perspectives they have on a good intimate life. Even if they often built walls around them because of many disillusions, surprisingly, together, they’re able to destroy those walls and live the love they deserve. Cancer tends to complain a bit too much sometime, and Scorpio really can’t stand people who whine, so pay attention.
